SETU Special Project: Graduation Approach for Poorest of Poor Households in Assam

Graduation Approach in Assam : SETU

In Assamese SETU/‘সেতুmeans ‘bridge’; which perfectly aligns to the inherent intention of the project which is to bridge the gap that exists between the poor and the vulnerable in accessing and utilizing resources, services and entitlements in releasing themselves from poverty traps and in bettering their lives. As per NITI Aayog MPI, 47 lakh people have risen out of the poverty trap in Assam in between 2015 and 2021, yet a considerable number of people are still deprived of adequate health, education and basic standard of living.

The two districts chosen for the pilot comprises - Bongaigaon & Chirang, both has exhibited consistently low ranking among SECC households with at least 3 deprivations, and NFHS 4 and 5. The area comprises of tribal population living in interior forest villages, families displaced during past ethnic-conflicts, families of ex-militants. The region is also prone to disasters like flooding, landslides, human-animal conflict.
